Dr. Claire Tobin
(BA Hons, MSc, DClinPsy)
I am a senior clinical psychologist working in both the NHS and in private practice. For several years I have dedicated my clinical work to helping people who have experienced adverse early experiences; this means that they may not have had their basic emotional needs met in childhood, for various reasons. I aim to work together with you to develop a fuller understanding of the development of your difficulties and what might help address them.
I have completed post-qualification training in a number of therapeutic models including Mentalisation-based Treatment (MBT) and Schema Focussed Therapy (ST). I am an accredited practitioner of MBT with the British Psychoanalytic Council. I also draw on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), including third wave approaches such as Mindfulness, and Family and Systemic Therapy.
Following completion of my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Kings College London, I have worked in a number of forensic and community-based adult mental health services. In addition, I offer teaching to medical students, and work part-time as a Clinical Tutor on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the Institute of Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience (IoPPN). I have published a number of scientific and academic articles. I continue to work in the NHS for some of my time, in a psychological therapies service for adults with anxiety, depression, affective disorders, personality disorders, and trauma. I also enjoy the ability to respond to patients more flexibly through my private practice. I provide effective psychological treatments, and also supervise other clinicians in delivering this work.
I offer appointments in Camberwell. Online appointments also available.
